The Reveal: Freckled Frog from ... Cat Patches

Good morning my friends. It's time to reveal my quilt for the "Patterns in Nature" prompt. My quilt was inspired by the Northern Leopard Frogs we encountered while hiking in Fort Ransom State Park in North Dakota. This is my original photograph. You can see more pictures from our hike at that link I've given you.

Initially, I didn't see how I was going to recreate him with the fabrics I had available. Then, I came across a swatch of this McKenna Ryan fabric in my stash. Doing a quick internet search, I was able to find ...

Fast Finish from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. It was a busy day yesterday. I accomplished everything on my list except for the housekeeping chores. Housekeeping takes a back seat to the fun stuff. Maybe I'll get at it today. Maybe I won't. Last night, I was a tired pup. It seemed like a good idea to give myself a day off today. After sleeping it off, I'm ready to get back at it this morning.

As for yesterday's comings and goings, I went to work first thing to bake the Cranberry Ecstasy Bars. They aren't hard to make ...

Building Houses from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends, and a Dandy December to you. Let's send 2023 out with a bang, shall we? Next year will be the interminable campaign here in the United States, and I'm afraid it's about to get ugly. But let's not talk about that, okay? Let's talk about kitties.

Sadie was my helper cat in the sewing room yesterday. They like that I've given them their own quilt to use when we're sewing.

She was happy we weren't doing any papurr-piecing during our sewing day. Instead, I was making four houses ...

Slow Sunday from ... Cat Patches

Good Monday morning, my friends, and my condolences if you have to go to work today. Things are looking up here at the Three Cats Ranch. We're expecting much warmer weather this week beginning tomorrow. I'm itching to get outside and do some work in the yard. Also, the tomatoes are appreciative of their spot in the greenhouse window. Nevertheless, they'll be happier when they can move into the greenhouse and have some privacy. Who can relate?

There was enough dry weather yesterday that Mike got the kitties outside for two walks. When they weren't outside ...

Quilting Commences from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. It's a bright and sunny day here...always good to see. We need to make a trip into town today, but I'm also hoping to get outside for a walk. The kitties haven't been outside in several days. Since their excursions must be chaperoned for the time being, I'm going to get them outside for a while today too.

There were quite a few things on yesterday's agenda, sewing-wise, that is. I finished up the stitchery for the third "Story of My Day" block.

It still needed some pieced sashings added ...

A Purrfect Finish from ... Cat Patches

Mike arrived home yesterday afternoon. It was almost like he never left. The RV is parked in the driveway once again, awaiting unpacking. This morning there's a kitty in his lap. And Smitty would like to purrtest the lack of adequate lap space here at the Three Cats Ranch over the past week. When you have two cats, and just one lap, the situation becomes purroblematic.

Fortunately, the weather was halfway decent yesterday, and so the kitties had a good amount of outdoor time.

Finally, the clematis is having its proper day. It has been threatening to bloom for ...

All Lined Up from ... Cat Patches

It took most of the day, but I finished the quilting on the Paws & Purrs quilt. The Line Tamer ruler let me down for this project, and I ended up quilting it on my domestic machine. I wanted to be near my work table since I was marking each line individually. It made for a lot of on and off the machine to draw the next line, and it was a tedious process. Of course this required plenty of snoopervision. Smitty took the first shift as my quilting snoopervisor.

For a job like this, you want to hold your ruler ...

A Pause on Paws from Cat Patches

Each day, my activity level increases a little bit. It was good to take a couple of lazy days. I spent some time on my slow-stitching in the morning, and stitched what I could of the first pitcher. It's nice using some different colors again.

May 1st was the day I set for myself to get some kind of exercise into my routine once again. Ever since breaking my shoulder in December of 2020, I've been pretty sedentary. For a while it was okay to blame my broken shoulder, but those days have passed. The shoulder is about ...

A Big Finish from Cat Patches

There's no accounting for some people. Some people get nothing done when there's no one to hold them accountable. And I did get some things done yesterday, but I spent a lot of my day being lazy. Matthew and I had breakfast in the morning. We'd planned to walk afterward, but then the weather wasn't that nice, and he was in the mood to go foraging for morel mushrooms with a couple of his friends. That was fine with me. I needed to drop off a birthday present for Mae. Later in the day, I received ...

A Finished Quilt from Cat Patches

It was kind of a busy day yesterday. I spent the morning in the garden. As I was taking my walk around, I found these two on squirrel watch in their catio.

My first stop was to check the fruit trees. I've been watching the cherries like a hawk...or a raccoon...or a squirrel. I'm not sure who's responsible for cleaning the tree, whether it's the mammals or the birds. Either way, they are still there. Kind of amazing. We're going to be gone next week, and I've worried about these ripening while ...
